    I used to be a member of PEN when I lived in New York City. An amazing embodiment of every cliche you can imagine, regarding the east coast liberal establishment. Yes, they did some good work trying to help writers in “oppressive” regimes, but they were not what I would call open-minded. I still remember the looks of shock when I mentioned that I had written pornography.
