Missing Child Alert — oh, wait… she’s black. Never mind.

Jahessye Shockley -- missing, but who gives a shit?

You ever heard of Jahessye Shockley? Of course not. When little girls go missing, we only give a shit if they are white — preferably from middle to upper class families. That’s what her uppity grandma says. (source) Please join me in telling her that she should have thought of that before she decided to be black. You may now resume your regularly scheduled viewing of the Nancy Grace show. And don’t say that Nancy Grace doesn’t give a shit about missing minority kids. She once reported on a missing half asian kid.

Seriously. The next time you wonder what the hell Elie Mystal is so pissed off about, ask yourself if his kid went missing whether the media would lose its mind until she turned up. You know, and I know, that missing little Black, Hispanic, and even Asian kids don’t matter to our shit-assed media.

They matter to me. They matter to lots of bloggers.

So the next time someone says that blogs are not “real media,” remember that.

Uh, this is a local news story where I am and “we only give a shit” ain’t quite so. This story has been all over the place with the local media, including a days-long statewide Amber Alert.

Story fails to mention that the mother was previously jailed for child abuse.

    • Sure, it is a local news story where you are. It sure isn’t one nationwide.

No argument there – I’m fully on board with any and all opprobrium and/or heavy rocks to be heaped upon Nancy Grace.

      • Yep, for instance, people like me. I am in China and had no clue lil Jahessye Shockley went missing. Thanks to Marco, this news went world wide and into my inbox. If I see her in China, (which the likelihoods I probably wont)…I will report back here and leave another comment :-p oh, and maybe leave a note to the authorities as well!

Attila, your point has some significance, but there are two problems:

    1) A wider net might be called for in general than “local” news — across the state, into nearby states, and even into states that one might believe the child could reasonably be in depending on circumstances — say, where the father resides, if he did not have custody.

    2) This is as much about racial bias in the media as it is about the story’s spread. If you’re rich and white, you get coverage that crosses the nation. If you’re poor and black, you don’t. And this is not merely a question of wealthy parents actually spending their own assets to promote knowledge of their missing child — it’s about the free publicity to the issue afforded to the wealthy white parents without any recompense.

That racial bias is yet another example of the quiet racism practiced by The Left, I’d argue. Kind of like how the Kerry 2004 campaign had no prominent black workers until someone pointed it out and got attention placed upon it. The Left are hypocritical racist ephs.

I guess you don’t read other papers much or watch FOX news. I learned about the disappearance of Jahessye from both.

Her mother was reported to child services in CA. and again in AZ. It is sad that Jahessye was not allowed to continue living with her cousin/aunt. This black mother had served 4 yrs. in a CA prison for abusing her children. She never should have regained custody of any of them!
