Wait, What? NC’s Anti Gay Marriage Amendment Actually Targets Miscegenation?!

By Jonathon C.A. Blevins

On Tuesday, May 8, 2012, North Carolina has the opportunity to join the ranks of “progressive” states that allow some form of same-sex union. Conversely, the populace may also send the state into the annals of history as one of the many states that openly discriminate against homosexuals. Not surprisingly, the amendment was drafted by a Republican. The same party that denounces state regulation…unless sex is involved.

If it was not course enough that NC is attempting to outlaw loving marriages between two human beings, it appears the law actually meant to dicriminate against a larger population of individuals.

Meet Jodie Brunstetter. She is the wife of the drafter of the amendment against homosexual marriage, Sen. Peter Brunstetter (R). She provided some insight as to the purpose of the amendment:

“The reason my husband wrote Amendment 1 was because the Caucasian race is diminishing and we need to uh, reproduce.”

Wtf?! Perhaps this was a mistake. She was either misquoted or she did not actually utter this non sense…nope:

“I’m afraid they have made it a racial issue when it is not,” Brunstetter said of the poll workers. Pressed on whether she had used the word “Caucasian,” she said, “I probably said the word,” but that she hadn’t used it in a race-related manner.”

Seriously? This does not make sense!  What possible “context” or scenario makes this comment logical? Though, in fairness, it may be difficult for her (or other North Carolinans) to remember which group they have targeted for discrimination on any given day. No offense, NC, the peninsula will also be on the wrong side of history.

Mrs. Brunstetter denies the allegations…but there is video so judge for yourself.

Note: She admits to using “Caucasian.” So either, this happened or everyone is making it up…thought it is not a far leap from discrimination of one type of person to discrimination of another type of person.

Either way, I hope NC defeats this measure.

If we want to eliminate discrimination…we must stop discriminating.

“From the equality of rights springs identity of our highest interests; you cannot subvert your neighbor’s rights without striking a dangerous blow at your own.”

~Carl Schurz

So what’s the text of the law? How does it encourage Caucasians to reproduce? A larger subsidy for white children? Cheaper white marriages? There are of course many kinds of hidden and overt subsidies for other groups. Maybe the word “Caucasian” is the one that upsets Mr. Schurz.

This line of reasoning makes me want to tear my hair out. Do they really believe that if the LGBT community can’t marry they will desire marriage so much they will run out and find the first member if the opposite sex they can find and start having litters?!? Or maybe only the white ones will?
