After six years of teasing, ICANN finally delivers on a .xxx top-level domain for sites displaying adult content.
The domains, which will be available by 2011, already have 110,000 pre-registrations through ICM Registry.

But can I display non-pornographic content on a XXX domain?
Wish I knew just what’s ACTUALLY happening. Here’s the first two paragraphs of a press release from the adult trade association, Free Speech Coalition:

Oops; my quote didn’t post:
Internet regulatory organization ICANN’s Board of Directors today passed a resolution that instructs the staff to reassess the merits of ICM Registry’s application to run .XXX as a sTLD, but serious obstacles to its ultimate passage still exist, and several Board members expressed deep reservations at having to vote on a resolution they did not consider completely accurate.
Essentially, the Board resolved that, although they had not made a determination as to whether they agreed with the findings of the majority of the independent review panel, they would accept and act in accordance with some of the panel’s findings.
That’s worse than a lot of the jargon-laden international human rights stuff I’ve seen the UN publish. The CNN article was somewhat vague about implementation as well. Now I can see why.
