Flori-duh, the place where due process goes to die, is paying for John Allen Ditullio’s makeup artist so that the jury doesn’t think ill of the boy.

On March 23, 2006, Pasco authorities say, he put on a gas mask and broke into a neighbor’s home, where he stabbed a woman in the face and neck, then attacked a teenager. Patricia Wells was slashed in the face and hands but recovered from her injuries. Kristofer King, who was 17, died. (source)

It is alleged that Mr. Ditullio was motivated by his rage at Ms. Wells for having a black boyfriend and a gay son. Not a good combination when you also live in a Flori-duh trailer park next door to a trailer full of nazi skinheads, I guess.

Now, Mr. Ditullio is on trial for murder, and the state is paying $150 per day for a professional makeup artist to cover up his tattoos. There was some concern that the jury might look at him funny, what with the big swastika on his neck and all.

I’m all for a defendant’s right to a fair trial. But, it would seem to me that unless the state put the tattoos on his neck, then he ought to cover them up himself or live with the consequences.

$150 a day?  Are there no turtle necks lying about?

I kinda feel bad for this guys lawyer. Can he have any stupider of a client. I’m sure all lawyers prep their client for a trial and how to go about presenting yourself at a trial. Probably even has a nice checklist of things to remember and think about. Who would have thought that the checklist needed to contain something like. “While awaiting trial in prison, don’t get a swastika tattooed on your neck.”

BTW Nice makeup job removing the barb wire but leaving pre-prison tear.

Fuck him…let the jury see what he’s really all about.

  4. Doesn’t covering up his tattoos actually discriminate against Mr. Ditullio? After all, a fair verdict does need to judge the defendant as he is.

A fair verdict requires that the jury convict him for having engaged in the conduct charged. He can be the lowest piece of dirt neo-nazi there is, but that doesn’t mean he committed the crime. And it would be nearly impossible for any reasonable juror to ignore the tattoos.

That said, the question is who pays the freight for the cover-up. It would be far cheaper to just spray paint him a different color altogether.

I live in this county and the local press coverage is amazing. This guy was convicted before the trial even started. The demographics of this county assured that. The press coverage has been long and extensive. Jurors may say they no nothing about this case but then potential jurors are not always the most forthcoming individuals. The local taxpayers pay the freight. Our local sheriff is a Joe A. acolyte so that gives you an idea of what its like.

It seems for the cost of 150/day (and knowing how long it takes out court system), they could just remove the tattoos with a laser and save a lot of money.

    No anesthetic, of course.

I cannot say whether he is guilty, but that tatoo work cannot help him with the jury. Neither will the prison garb. If they have make-up that will cover that neck swastika up, I have not see it yet.

All of which leads me to speculate that it might be cheaper to buy him a turtle-neck shirt or two for use during trial.
