In Lakeland, Florida, saying “Im’ma kill me a cop one day” will get you two years in prison

A Lakeland, FL man has been sentenced to two years in prison for recording a rap song entitled “Kill Me a Cop” (source). It seems that the local sheriff’s office considers the lyrics to be a credible threat of imminent violence — never mind the fact that the source of that “imminent” threat was in county jail on parole violation when “apprehended.”

    The land of Grady Judd, where the First Amendment died a long time ago. I can’t wait for the sea levels to rise and wash Polk County into the Gulf of Mexico.

    He plead guilty. By doing so, he agreed he committed a criminal act. I have no sympathy for him.

      I have no sympathy for him either – as I’m sure that he is a bad guy. Nevertheless, a guilty plea doesn’t mean that you agree that you committed a criminal act, it merely means that you accept guilt for the crime as charged — which is something that innocent defendants do all the time in order to avoid the uncertainty, expense, and hassle of a trial.

      Nevertheless, while I share your lack of sympathy for the defendant, I am concerned about the erosion of OUR constitutional rights. Grady Judd is a fascist pig who must be stopped. Unfortunately, the uneducated and backward assed residents of Polk County keep re-electing him.

        Sorry, marco, you’re thinking of a no contest plea. Pleading guilty means you are admitting to a crimminal offense. If you claim otherwise later they can go after you for perjury.
