This sure is a bizarre turn of events. The wanna-be Massachusetts attorney who failed the bar, and then blamed a question about gay marriage for his shortfall has done a 180.
Stephen Dunne said he was “embarrassed” for being an “instrument of bigotry and prejudice,” in a letter to the editor and interview in the Jan. 3 edition of Bay Windows, a Boston newspaper serving lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgendered readers.
“By filing a misguided federal lawsuit . . . in respect to the legitimacy of same-sex marriage, I have regrettably perpetuated intolerance and animosity towards my fellow Americans,” Dunne said in his letter. “My religiously based discrimination of gay people was callous and diametrically opposed to America’s core principles of freedom and equality.” (source)
Wow… it gets better….
In Bay Windows, Dunne called his lawsuit a “lashing out” as a result of failing the exam. “. . . I am particularly regretful of my actions towards those gay and lesbian friends that I befriended and studied alongside during my three years of law school,” he said. “You are all wonderful people and loving parents . . .”
An Irish immigrant who’s now a U.S. citizen, Dunne said he came to see parallels in the discrimination of gay people and that faced by the Irish when they first came to America.
I dunno… I wonder if he doesn’t sound just a little too contrite. When he dropped his suit, he didn’t seem to have this level of reflection. Nevertheless, I move that we all take Mr. Dunne on his word. With that, I hereby revoke Mr. Dunne’s ass-hat award.

The guy is strange. Not surprising he would lash out. If he were studying the lawbooks the nite before the bar rather than some guy’s crotch, he might have passed. But that’s water under the bridge.
It really just sounds like he is a hot head and would have done well to have gotten the advice that someone gave us. That is to find yourself a moral compass and to seek the advice of several attorneys on all different experience levels.
His initial complaint was written and filed while he was upset. I wonder if he did talk to anyone about filing this. Surely even the most novice attorney would have told him he was a damned fool.
