As with most things “modern,” Socrates had the answer to this tomfoolery. In the Gorgias he persuasively argues that while itching might be pleasurable, it’s preferable to not have the itch in the first place.
Doing drugs would be rational if it were ever possible to catch the dragon rather than chase it.
Probably the same thing could be said of sex. I look forward to the day when my sex drive isn’t so high. Though Callicles might argue that this would make my existence no different from a stone’s.
