Yes, it’s lame that Fox News cherry picked some porn to point out what’s wrong with the NEA. However, the truth of the matter is that the NEA is a complete waste of money, no matter what they do with their funds. If no one will pay for your shitty art work, you should make better art — not get government help.

  2. I’m not sure it is a complete waste of money. Collective support for the arts is a long-standing tradition from the time of Ancient Rome to most modern day countries.

Why do you think so damn many bands and artists happen to be Canadian? Is there something superior about Canada? No… the Canadian government subsidizes artists so that the country doesn’t turn into a cultural black hole.

Market driven art is usually schlock. I’m willing to pay higher taxes to subsidize artists to some extent — even if it isn’t art I like.

    You tell him!!!

I am confused, is it the theater that received $25,000 or the film makers of that particular erotic, goth film?

Nude sculptures have been around since Ancient Greece and Rome as well and are all over the MET in New York and many other national museums with superb antiquities collections.

I however wouldn’t buy a Jeff Koons and Cicciolina sculpture that probably goes for $100,000.

Randazza is right, the NEA funds artistic projects to help keep the Arts in the country flourishing. They often are only a starting point as well. Let’s hope Mrs Obama continues to take an active interest.
