Holy Crap!

Carlos Miller reports:

In what should send a frightening chill down the spine of every blogger, writer, journalist and First Amendment advocate in the United States, Phoenix police raided the home of a blogger who has been highly critical of the department. (source)

I found this image on the blogger’s page, I thought it was awesome!

I was going to blog about this as well.

One note — the blogger (and Carlos Miller) suggest that malice is indicated by the fact that the police took items outside the scope of the warrant. But I have dealt as a prosecutor and a defense lawyer with hundreds of warrants, and I can count on one hand the number of times the cops only took what was mentioned in the warrant. As a fed, I used to have long, complex discussions with agents explaining the scope of the warrant and what they could and could not take. The agents would nod as if they understood and then proceed to seize whatever occurred to them that day — ten-year-old receipts, takeout menus, whatever.
