Nassau County, Florida Seeks to Ban Porn Sales

The Fernandina Beach News Leader reports:

Nassau County Commissioners considered an ordinance banning the sale of pornography during their meeting Wednesday.

County Attorney David Hallman presented a draft ordinance to the board, but he and Commissioners Mike Boyle and Barry Holloway expressed concerns that the ordinance, if adopted in its present form, could expose the county to legal challenges.

“I’d be remiss if I didn’t tell you that you’d be out at the edge if you adopt this,” Hallman said. (source)

    More stupidity from your adopted home state MJR. Do the asshats in charge in florida ever learn?

  2. Heh… no, they don’t seem to.

    But, look on the bright side! My daughter needs toys and a college fund.

  3. Tatiana says:

    Yeah, your adopted home and my former one. :-)

    Transparent front windows to ensure customers inside aren’t guaranteed privacy?! I know a few Ft. Lauderdale shops with clear windows but with enough merchandise and creative placement, everything could be worked out. That’s a bad reason.

    I just love it when porn issues like this come up. What a joke.

    What I’m interested in is where the shops with clear windows would be – in a strip center (pardon the pun) or some stand alone building? If the former, then this raises far bigger issues like the kids that might wander around or uptight wives who need a little – you know; that would make a lot of townspeople much more unhappy and uncomfortable. If the latter, then what’s the problem? You gotta make an effort to get there and effort should be rewarded, no? lol You know these guys have got secret lives – all the “good” ones do. This is how they hide them.

    But I guess the best way to go about it is to ban it completely and then you don’t have any problems. Maybe they watched too much of the Olympics, took notes from the Chinese. lol Amazing. Not a new topic but each time I read about it I’m left amazed at its stupidity, especially in the land of the “free”. I can’t figure out what part of that word does not compute.

    Best to you…

    What a fool David Hallman, Nassau County attorney….. draft an ordinance and then state that it would be illegal if adopted. Wake up elected officials …… you’ve hired a fool for an attorney!

    if you dont like it turn your head or stick out hand …. Thats how it works get with the good ole boys in nassau if youve been here more than a day and aren,t blind you should know this….

    actually, i think that it would be a good idea to ban porn… if you want crazy sex, have crazy sex, just don’t buy and sell zillions of copies of crazy sex. Things like that can get between good families, corrupt children, separate husbands and wives… and don’t give me BS about it helps ‘light the fire’. If you truly have no imagination and can’t come up with your own ideas for sex, how are you sexually charged at all?
    And for all those “Free Speech-ers” out there; In 1947 the Supreme Court ruled in the case Roth vs United States, that obscenity is not protected by the First Amendment.
    Further, in 1971 during Miller v. California, the legal definition of obscenity is stated as;
    – the average person, applying contemporary community standards, would find that the work, taken as a whole, appeals to the prurient interests;
    – The work depicts of describes, in a patently offensive way, sexual conduct specifically defined by the applicable state (or federal) law;
    – and, The work, taken as a whole, lacks serious artistic, political, or scientific value.

    In other words, if the content of a particular media consists of material that should not be viewed by your twelve-year-old, it is not protected by the first amendment…

    This ruling was further cemented in the 1973 case of Paris Adult Theatre v. Slaton, where it was stated that material legally defined as obscene is not accorded the same protection as free speech in the First Amendment.

    If your only excuse is that you like it, and that you need ‘an escape’, either get married, or start arousing your spouse… a truly interested husband can lead a woman to some freaky sex, so give and take and quit whining… its not becoming of ‘adults’.

  7. Cough…

    In other words, if the content of a particular media consists of material that should not be viewed by your twelve-year-old, it is not protected by the first amendment…

    Wrong. Wrong. Wrong. Wrong.

    If you attended law school, please get your money back.

    If you don’t like porn, then don’t buy it.

  8. Porn is for the peasants of society. Without it, they wouldn’t be able to survive and likely would become outright rapists. So sad that the lower classes resort to such filth but it is true.

    Outlaw Porn outright would be a good thing, it may actully help to reisntate some morals in our corrupted peasants but I will not keep my fingers crossed as the zionists will be the first to defend the porn producers and claim that our Founding Fathers meant that Freedom of Speech included graphic acts of rape, bondage, homosexuals and so on. Indeed, you can bet that “Fishel Israelwitz” will be the first to fight this!

    Porn is a disgusting destroyer of our European peoples and culture. It should be wiped out and destroyed and those that produce and distribute hung for treason against this nation & our society on a whole.

  9. Wow. I never thought of it that way before. You’ve convinced me. I just knew that there was some plot between the Jews and the homosexuals to ruin us all. I just needed a bright white person to explain it to me! Thank you so much.

    I suppose I would just seem greedy if I were to hope that someone would pass such an ordinance here in Volusia. Make it nice and vague. Yeah, easy case, but first you have to get the ordinance passed.

    Hmmm, our County Council does contain a majority of people intent on disproving the “Lake Wobegon” effect. Maybe we can work something out.
