To recite the title of one of your recent posts: “Why can’t Bernie Sanders be President?” People in our government need to learn a lesson of dedication from Bernie. And I’m not referring to the dedication required to get as many donations as possible for future campaigns…
A redistribution of wealth will not solve the issues we face as a national economy on a world stage. As a country we loose wealth year after year due to our sustained trade deficit. The internal redistribution of wealth will in the short term (5-10years) make a few people more comfortable but ends with everyone being poorer in the USA. We need to stop the bleeding and start manufacturing and selling goods again. Period end stop. The idea that the wealthiest in America are at fault for, or can save us through taxation from our current economic plumet is outdated. It was maybe true in the fifties or sixties but those days are gone. Unfortunately alot of people still buy into the old school of thought and propogate it as current. When people rally around slogans like “Robinhood economics” they fail to remember or acknowledge that Robinhood’s main protagonists were the tax collector and King not the people(including wealthy business owners). FYI my father, my brother and myself combined don’t make 250,000 a year :(, so those tax hikes won’t affect us personally. It will just be another nail in the coffin for our national economy.
You make a hell of a point.
While I agree with a redistributive income tax structure, you’re absolutely right that it doesn’t do a lot of good to keep redistributing a shrinking pie.
