She could always run for United States Senator in Louisiana (both against Vitter and against that porn star).
But this story brings back an interesting situation: in Illinois, someone named Mathew Hale passed the Illinois Bar exam but was denied a license to practice law due to poor moral character; this guy was an avid and outspoken white supremacist.
The ACLU filed a friend of the court brief saying that his views ought not to be a factor.
However, this guy (now in prison) also had record of assaults, threats and the like. It wasn’t as if he just made his views public.
If I remember correctly, he (Matthew Hale) refused, when asked by the review panel, to swear to uphold the Constitution. He stated candidly that he advocated the overthrow of the U.S. government – although nonviolently.
It doesn’t sit perfectly with me either, but I don’t disagree with the Illinois Bar’s decision. Seems like they made the correct one, given the fact that he put a hit out on a judge afterward. What a dumbass.
In hindsight they may have made the right decision, but it still really bothers me. He was excluded for his political beliefs. Of course, maybe they just sensed that he would be a dumbass.
As sex for money transactions are legal in Rhode Island I can’t imagine what grounds they could deny her Bar card on, assuming she passes.
It seems as though victims have very few rights in little Rhody as a woman whose life was theatened has had her name plastered all over the paper and internet.
It is true that prostitution is legal in Rhode Island. However, as the story says, “she listed her business as ‘telephone sales’ on her Rhode Island bar application.” Sounds to me like she lied on her bar app.
Anyone with a name like Baccala has to be fishy.

The Ill Bar decision in that case never did sit well with me. If Matthew fucking Staver can have a bar license, why not Matthew fucking Hale?

[...] the Legal Satyricon: a potential lawyer (she is waiting for her bar exam results) tells police that she was assaulted [...]
Back to the RI case. What, no whore/lawyer jokes?
I, for one, commend Nina Baccala for putting the cum back in cum laude.
